Follow the inspection sequence below one by one to locate the root cause:
Step 1: Check fuel volume inside the gasoline tank
Low or empty fuel is the most frequent cause; refill qualified unleaded gasoline if insufficient.
Step 2: Test spark plug ignition performance (if fuel is enough)
Remove the spark plug, place the metal shell against the engine metal frame, pull the recoil starter rope;
If no blue spark appears, the spark plug is faulty, replace it with a new standard plug (0.7–0.8mm gap).
Step 3: Check operation settings
Confirm fuel cock is open, main power & stop switch are turned to ON, cold startup choke is closed properly.

Step 1: Check priming water filling status
The pump will never draw water without full priming water inside the pump cavity. Unscrew the priming plug and refill clean water to full capacity.
Step 2: Clean blocked suction strainer foot valve
Silt, grass and solid debris cover the filter screen and block water inflow; take down the foot valve and rinse the mesh completely.
Step 3: Check suction pipeline air leakage (core reason for no water)
Air entering the suction pipe destroys vacuum self-priming effect, two key inspection points:
1).Tighten all loose hose clamps and joint nuts to eliminate gaps;
2).Replace cracked, aging, damaged suction hoses that leak air.
Extra check: Confirm the foot valve is fully submerged under water surface; if placed too high above water, self-priming height exceeds the standard 8.5m limit of water pumps.
Causes: Clogged impeller, worn mechanical seal, insufficient engine speed.
Fix: Disassemble pump casing to clean impeller debris; replace leaking mechanical seal; adjust throttle to raise rotating speed.
Causes: Insufficient engine oil, blocked air filter, long closed choke valve.
Fix: Refill SAE10W-30 oil; clean or replace air filter; open choke fully after cold startup.
Causes: Aging sealing gaskets, damaged mechanical seal, loose priming plug.
Fix: Replace corresponding gaskets and mechanical seal; retighten all threaded plugs.
